How to clean stove top grates

Scrub free cleaning?

Ammonia and time is the trick here.

Use a locking bag, put your grate into it along with 1-2 tablespoons of ammonia. Due to the strong odor of ammonia I recommend you do this outside. Setting it in the sun will help speed up the process. Let it set for day, then clean it up. It’s amazing how the ammonia eats through the built up grime. Depending upon how bad yours are, you might have to retreat. I usually do two at a time so my stove is still usable.

Let them set outside for 24 hours or more, then rinse them off. Most of the grime will rinse off, “most”. If it requires more than a little bit of elbow grease you can put it back in the bag and give it more time.

FYI: You should NEVER mix bleach and ammonia it creates a toxic gas, always be careful.

Update: I was asked where I got the tinfoil disposable stove liners. I found them at Walmart too.
