How to Magnetize and Demagnetize a Screwdriver

With the use of a magnet you can magnetize and demagnetize a screwdriver or any other steel tool. By simply rubbing the screwdriver across the magnet it will become magnetized. To demagnetize you can rub the screwdriver across the magnets side instead of it’s face.  

You can experiment with different magnets. I found that most of the really thin refrigerator magnets didn’t work very well but if you leave them attached to the screwdriver they do work. If I find a small magnet I often leave it on a screwdriver to keep it magnetized. If you just have to buy a tool you can find ones like these pretty inexpensively.
